Excessive TV Viewing Ruins Your Child Life; Since the closure of schools for Holiday, parents have substituted schools to television. They are using television as a child minding service.
This has made children glued on the television screens for more than eight hours. The parents think that the television programs and adverts are beneficial to their children.
The truth is, parents can’t distinguish between educational programs and child minded programs. Yes the television are source of information, entertainment and educational purposes .However the child minded programs can ruin your child life forever.
Children believe in what they can see and put into practice. They can’t differentiate right from wrong. The adverse effects of television watching outnumber the positive ones.
Here are few ways in which TV can be a bad influence on your child.
- Teens who watch violent movies are more are likely to be aggressive and violent.
- The characters on television series/movies often depict risky behaviours like drinking alcohol, smoking and use of drugs.
- Children who watch scary movies/series likely to develop fear and tend to think that the world is not a better place for them. The often have bad dreams, anxious feelings, afraid of being alone and withdrawing from friends.
- Child health; there is risky of your child being overweight commonly referred to as obesity.

Back to our TV programmes, they are unfit and inappropriate for viewing by our children.
Most of the programmes are not educative at all. They instill and provoke immorality among learners.
The timing of the programmes is poor, furthermore TV stations have employed comedians instead of broadcasters who have perfected the art of obscene language. The comedians are very careless with what they utter.
Professionalism is lacking in our media rooms and something should be done to retain the lost glory.
Unto the parents. Let us limit TV time for our children. Occupy the child with other activities for physical and mental well-being. Let us guide our children on the right content for them to view.
